I believe the authors are spot on! That said, as CEO of Todd Mitchell Associates, an executive search firm that specializes within the insurance industry our research has shown that retention has become a bigger issue.
It is relatively easy to recruit talent to a competitive company. The issue of retention after training is the bigger problem.
Additionally, our industry tends not to exhibit paths of success to prospects as they evaluate employment. Training is great, technology improves results, but if nobody is home what good are these tools.

The article is very good except the major point the carriers are missing is that there are still a lot of us “Baby Boomers” who want to work but can no longer get hired and many of us in management would make great teachers and mentors to those young people who have no experience.

What Todd Mitchell and Gene Cambell stated is something I have been saying for the last 20 years. Now carriers and the insurance claims industry are scrambling for claims people. Carriers and TPA’s knew years ago they would be faced with a shortage of qualified adjusters. As the saying goes, too little too late.
