Let’s be careful to not make UAVs the scapegoat for pilots and those who are hypersensitive to the topic of safety. There are near misses on a daily basis involving real aircraft by way of the control towers. Of course is this especially apparent at airports that are high volume.

Albeit, my opinion of this whole topic is the popular one among this discourse. I recently was scolded by a pilot while operating my UAV because I was exactly 3.2 miles from an airport and after assessing my surroundings, I took it up to 400ft to capture a wide shot of the site I was surveying. My point is, while I’m all for the regulations put forth, not everything is black and white. A little common sense can go a long way. It’s going to be interesting how the FAA handles this topic. Just because you have a license, doesn’t make you a good pilot nor justifies you to verbally assault a UAV operator while operating their device. I was especially offended by his comments, because I am advocate for this industry. I’m the future of this industry. I take it very seriously and I’m not an idiot. I am educated and I have brain, I am calculated in my flights. I’ve invested a lot of money into my drone and I don’t want to see it damaged or be responsible for any damage.

I admit, I should have called the tower and notified them. That is one thing I learned from this experience. However, my intention to do so would be to solely shut guys like that pilot up when they want to walk up to me and try and flex their muscle at a younger person while operating their drone and threaten them with empty threats of police action. I love this technology, I love where this is going and I love the fact that I am well on my way to start my own company using this technology for real practical use, not just to shoot videos for Facebook or Youtube. I’m a real player in this game with REAL intentions to use this technology for industrial purposes.

Sorry, I had to vent about the experience. Thanks for posting the article!
