While one source noted in this article says hording is rare, the majority of the other comments suggest it’s a growing problem of unknown proportions. Most of us want to keep the courts from telling us what to do with out own property, and that’s understandable, but on the other side of the equasion of balancing public safety, caring about your neighbors, and not needlessly endangering the lives of firefighters, it seems fully reasonable to inspect and enforce the most basic of safety requirements: a) No hording – get a storage unit, and b) working smoke alarms.
I’d view the extreme rise in public storage facilities as direct proof that our society has a mental problem associated with hording what most of us would call someone else’s stuff as junk. continually
