Thank you for a very informative article on employee theft and IT dangers. You have rightly stated that today we have some many ways to access information and on so many devices that ‘the’ information has become vulnerable. Most business restrict its employees to bring thump drives, DVD, CDs or other portable media on which they can take away important files/documents. However one can’t check its employees on daily basis and even the random ones are not too common. Most IT managers have virtual autonomy as rightly stated by you and they also need monitoring by the CEO. Often lack of monitoring can backfire really as bad employees can create backdoors on their computers to steal proprietary information. The over smart employees are often seen emailing office documents to personal emails, wasting company time over personal tasks/entertainment, chatting on IM and even shopping on company time.

The employee theft and time theft are very real troubles and employers big and small must track employee activities with reliable software. One name that reckons with me here is Net Orbit that is like a network monitoring software for the entire PCs on a company’s LAN network. This works great for schools, labs, businesses, and corporate establishments. With the software installed on every employee or student PC, the IT manager can view everyone’s computer screen from his/her own workstation, view files/folders, websites searched, application usage, open ports, perform remote commands and can even take full remote control of any PC as well.
