I think it has nothing to do with Americans falling out of love with driving. Because of the economy and gas prices people have change their driving habits. I believe that if the economy improves, people return back to work and gas prices become reasonable there will be a return to driving. This was the case with this past weekend and a significant increase in people using their vehicles to go to Labor Day weekend destinations.

I’m used to driving fast and wasting a lot of gas. Money’s not the issue, but nonetheless it’s starting to not work for me any more, especially since I have a nagging environmental conscience guilting me into taking the subway or riding my bike.

Further, in regards to teen drivers, states have made such strict teen driving/licensing laws that is it prohibitive to assist a teenager to obtain a license under the age of 18. Also, why pay super inflated insurance costs that outweighs the privilege teens are afforded by having a driver’s license. The states have done their jobs by restricting teen driver’s licenses so much that they have accomplished their goal of making the driving population be 18+. Also, the article does point out a good factor to consider, owning a vehicle, especially if there is a loan/lease attached to it, takes a substantial portion of the yearly income of individuals.

“It then dropped sharply during the Great Recession and has largely plateaued since, even though the economy is recovering and the population growing.”

Why can’t this just be a claims site rather than an adjunct of the Democrap Party?

The Obooba Administration has had its foot on the economy’s throat from day one. E.g., more people are on food stamps now than ever before. You can’t buy gas with food stamps. It has nothing to do with what people want to do with their cars, it has everything to do with what they can afford to do.

I’m part of the giant cohort born between 1946 and 1964 – and it says we are moving out of their peak driving years. I beg to differ while living in rural Oklahoma you have no choice. Also, when traveling to conferences and meetings around the country, I’m much rather drive than fly…
