I think the helmet law must be followed by every state, not partially but strictly. Most of the time it happens that the motorcycles gets severely injured in the accidents just because of not wearing the helmet. People must know the importance of wearing the helmet. Helmets and other riding gears can save one’s life. A very nice message was written that “Wear the riding gear while driving motorcycle if you love your life” on the trailer of the motorcycle hauling company.
Robert Ferik says:
Two state have no Helmet Law. Why?
Simple Answer: Because they’re free. Long Answer: Every time a law is passed, it’s another freedom lost. It’s your life, you know the consequences and you and you alone make the decision. Government issuing you a ticket for not keeping “yourself” safe is too much government, people can keep themselves safe, it’s individual choice. State governments also get federal dollars for maintaining helmet laws which is why so many do, the States that don’t require this still maintain the ideals of personal freedom, at least in this aspect.
I respect your belief on personal freedom. If people choose to not wear helmets then that is their call. They are now assuming *ALL* risks in doing so. So when they wrap themselves around a guardrail and incur a traumatic brain injury then they should not enjoy the societal safety net of Medicaid. No helmet, no tax payer medical care – square deal. Personal freedom comes with a price. Are you prepared to pay the price? Is the general population when their loved one is in dire need?
Universal helmet law: I think it should be mandatory in all States, some people don’t have enough common sense to protect themselves and think “wind in the hair” and “freedom of choice” is cool — until they hit the pavement.
Personal freedom NOT to wear a helmet: fine, but when you get a head injury DO NOT call on the medical safety net to help you beyond what you can privately pay, I am not willing to have my healthcare premium rise because you chose to neglect your own safety.
I ride and wear my helmet because I want to, not because I’m TOLD to…..it’s my choice and should be the choice to of all of us who ride….Tired of all the the so called well meaning co-dependent people out there trying to force there ideals on us telling us what we should wear or what we should eat and how much is too much…All because they know better than us, and that we are incapable of making decisions without their learned input. I say to you, mind your own business!! You should just take care of YOU and leave us be. End of rant!
I think any adult should have the option to choose whether or no to wear a motorcycle helmet. Peter Nicolasiasen’s logic is somewhat flawed. Extending his thought process to be evenly applicable to all means that he is unwilling to allow his healthcare premiums to pay for treatment of a drug addict that chose to destroy their lives by using illegal drugs. Think bout the alcoholics who chose to create significant health issues in their bodies due to abuse of alcohol. The list of self inflicted health issues in essentially limitless and they all may impact your healthcare insurance premiums. While I wholeheartedly agree that helmets add an element of safety to motorcycle riding, I also don’t believe helmets are the panacea.

And now for the maps of injuries and deaths please…
why do you care? ware a helmet if you ant to but don’t guilt others into it
Another situation the effing insurance companies stepping in. LET THOSE RIDE DECIDED!
Let those who ride decided!
l know many ppl that are paralyzed that had hemets on, butttt they are still alive.
So the helmet wearers remain a burger on society.
