This recommendation is pure _ullshit. It’s unecessary and expensive and is an attempt to put Big Brother in the backseat. They will nothing to prevent accidents or make roads safer.

Having done several hundred hours research on current EDR’s most of this information is now available on vehicles today but the owner of the vehicle has little knowledge that it exists. It opens many issues legal and privacy wise for the motoring public who is not transporting passengers or products for commercial or interstate reasons.

In addition it is redundant to currently available means to gathering such information. This would create a situation to violate some individual freedoms of the vehicle owner. Not being an attorney I would think in some unfortunate circumstances it could supersede an individual’s rights under the Fifth Amendment.

As a consumer it raises many questions in my mind of the good it would do while eliminating many of my individual rights. This is not to say that true facts should be determined but the means, although they require some effort on someone’s part are determinable with current technology without the problems this device will create.
