Great article, Denise. This is a complex issue, but one about which claims professionals and attorneys should be well versed. Thank you for sharing this information.
The Medicare issue, especially when dealing with Liability claims, is confusing for those that are not educated or are unfamilar with CMS and what is required to proctect Medicare’s interests.
The article writer and the MSA people interviewed did a fine job talking about an issue that ALWAYS has more questions than answers.
I have some Medicare claims that the patient has either a worker’s comp, Auto or other liability policy. The claim is not related to the liability policy it should be billed to Medicare. How do I bill this so it won’t reject?

This issue is not confusing. It would have been better if they could have interviewed someone more knowledgeable about the issue.
I have to agree that the issue is not complicated. The main problem is the plaintiff bar does not understand Medicare.
