“At the annual Cruise Shipping Miami conference, cruise executives made no mention of the accident’s cause, but said they would study and learn from it. They insisted it was an aberration.”

What a bunch of pompous, delusional A-holes! Didn’t even have the balls to speak of a horrific disaster, just their profit forecast and the “new generation of ships”. Hello? It doesn’t matter how safe the ships are if the egotisical, careless, and irresponsible captain plays games and slams it into some rocks trying to impress a handful of peasants watching from shore. This guy had a history of disregarding orders and taking chances. The cruise line had “actual notice” and should have fired his sorry ass long ago.

It isn’t the equipment they need to focus on. There has to be a “fail safe” that prevents an one person from making fatal decisions. The industry may be “heavily regulated” by the government, but it failed to regulate itself. To get the message across so they understand it, people should boycott the cruise industry for a year. Maybe then it would pay serious attentiion to its fundamental issues.
