Incomplete Claim Investigations May Create Coverage Where No Coverage Exists

    If the entity had hired an experienced independent adjuster with crop experience, this debacle could have been prevented. Too many carriers and self-insured entities/organizations save a penny only to later spend many pounds because they won’t hire the needed claims talent up front. An expensive lesson.

    I agree that not hiring top or at least fully experienced talent up front is a mistake, but so it the municipality’s failure to do the risk management assessment of knowing their neighbors, and understanding their uninsured risks. Had they not simply relied on their insurer for 18mos, they may have proven non responsibility, or settled directly for a far lower amount. The passive approach is the more expensive method.
