So if I am distracted by a conversation on a cellphone, does that mean I am also distracted by the conversation with the person sitting in the seat next to me? Am I distracted by talk radio, or perhaps the screaming toddler in the back seat? Cellphones are not the root cause of the rise in accidents. More vehicles on the road and more unskilled drivers are! I can count the number of people that I personally know that did not know until I told them that the double yellow line means “No turning”, or if you approach a malfunctioning traffic light that it should be treated like a 4-way stop. How many times have you seen cars just fly through a blinking traffic light without even thinking to slow down? How about the many idiots that do not know that cars crossing the train/railroad tracks have the right-a-way regardless of who approached the intersection first. In the state I live in(don’t know the laws in other states) once we are given our DL that is it. You are done with the DMV. You have it for life,(unless it is taken of course). You don’t even have to go back to the DMV to get it renewed you can do that online and they will mail it to you. How about every 6 years or so drivers go back to relearn the rules of the road. That’s right retake the written and the road test. Not knowing the rules of the road I am sure causes many more accidents than a cellphone.
