I agree, Wheldon’s death is tragic. But I can’t believe the whining that followed his accident regarding safety. What’s next on the bleeding heart list, trying to make “dueling” safer? Automobile racing is inherently dangerous and always will be. Anyone who does it understands and assumes the risk, that’s what makes it thrilling for them. Unlike Dale Earnhardt who was a jerk behind the wheel and drove recklessly throughout his career, Wheldon was a professional driver with common sense and respect for his sport. When you get behind the wheel of a machine with an open cockpit and go 225MPH with dozens of others chasing the $5,000,000 pot, something has to give. Deal with it or get out of it.
