America needs to stop being the world’s patsy. NO FOREIGN NON-CITIZENS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO ENROLL IN AN AMERICAN FLIGHT SCHOOL. The rednecks who enrolled the 9/11 terrorists were greedy and stupid. The only thing they were concerned about was the money. Think about it. “Hi, I am Achmed and I wish to learn to fly large, commercial jet airliner. I don’t want to know how to takeoff or land, just how to steer it once it’s in the air.” Did it ever occur to these American geniuses that something isn’t right here? Considering the realities of the world, maybe it’s time to close the borders and require applicants for citizenship to pass proficiency tests in speaking and writing English.

    And that would help…who exactly??

Lets say they kicked the terrorists out of the flight school or didn’t enroll them in the first place? They didn’t need training to do what they did. They basically steered airliners into a building. That just isn’t that hard to do. and Private Pilot training won’t help you to do it; the controls on a Boeing are very different from a basic Cessna.

Yep, let’s shut down more American small businesses because of small-minded prejudice.

And it DID occur to many of the flight instructors. If I recall correctly, they reported it to local FAA officials and nothing was done. In any case, what the hell was going to be done? Kick them out of flight school. OK, but they haven’t done anything illegal, cant put them in jail.

Flight schools are not the enemy and flight instructors didn’t cause 9/11.

“And you should look up the actual requirements for citizenship. English is a requirement…
The ability to read, write and speak ordinary English unless they are physically unable to do so due to a disability such as being blind or deaf, or suffer from a developmental disability or mental impairment. Those over 50 years old on the date of filing who have lived here for a total of at least 20 years after admission as a permanent resident and those who are over 55 and have been legal permanent residents for at least 15 years are also exempt from this requirement.”

Keep dreaming friend. The language “requirement” isn’t enforced. Example: in NJ, the brilliant minds in the supreme court decided people must be read their rights IN THEIR NATIVE LANGUAGE. Otherwise, charges are dismissed. Ever travelled to NYC? You don’t hear English spoken in a lot of places. My son is an ER doctor. He’s concerned about trying to help people because THEY CAN’T SPEAK ENGLISH and will sue him if something goes wrong because he doesn’t understand them.

This is not “small minded prejudice”. America has become lax and is vulnerable to terrorists and they aren’t the original European and UK immigrants who came here to be Americans. As a former military officer and 9/11 survivor, I think it’s smart to know who your enemies are, and never forget they aren’t going away.

Actually…it IS enforced. Those are the actual requirements listed to become a citizen. Your son’s hospital should have people in the ER to translate; that’s a liability hole for the hospital not providing what is necessary for him to safely care for them.

It IS a small minded prejudice to be upset when you “don’t hear English spoken”. I’ve been to NYC as well as Boston. I’m not the least upset when I walk through the North End and hear a lot of Italian spoken.

We live in a melting pot and always have. The prejudice is no less than it was against Japanese and German immigrants in the 40s, Italian and Irish and Chinese before them. Think people are scared of the “muslim terrorists” now? We put Japanese AMERICAN CITIZENS in prison camps during WWII.

This is still the USA. If you take away rights of those you don’t like, you may as well declare terrorists the winners.

Never forget your enemies aren’t going away quickly (a former Army Officer myself – our enemy did go away; USSR is a shadow of what it was in the 1980s..). Vigilance and paranoia are two different things!

The “melting pot” concept is no more. America is more like a “mossaic” of people who have no interest in becoming “American”. They cling to their old language which in public I find insulting. They wear their native garb and settle in communities of their own. If they choose to come here, their “old country” and habits should be secondary to being American. You don’t find this in most other civilized countries. Apparently, you don’t have a problem becoming a minority in your own country. I do. And by the way, our new enemy isn’t conventional. Enjoy playing defense and eating the cost of trying to defend against them. Keep sending those donations to the ACLU.
