Better yet, make parts out of things you can eat, too. That way parts will interchange, and if you are on a long car trip and the car stops on you, you can chow down on the door handle while you convert the rear bumper into a new strut…plus, according to the inventor, this will make things like Chinese cars even cheaper! plus, we can cut employment in this country! Win Win I say…I’m surprised the Obama admin hasn’t made this guy secretary of good ideas or something…This will create a larger dependent class=more voters who will support the growing Michigan economy; ok, I guess it won’t grow, but Mr. Sikkila will make so much money he’ll be able to hire butlers and maids and cooks and dog walkers…it will create real jobs and wealth in his town.

This makes too much sense hence it will never happen. The UAW is based on “protecting the job”. That means making things as complicated and inefficient as possible so you can employ as many un-skilled, un-educated, un-motivated humps as you can to produce an inferior product. The automakers don’t care as long as they’re making money. The bottomline is this idea would take a bite out of the inflated egos and pockets of both and they’ll fight like hell to protect their antiquated processes.

The “big 3” haven’t learned anything from the recent economic crisis. They keep producing recycled models of the past; the mustang, the GTO, the charger, the camaro to name a few. Their engineering can’t compete with foreign DESIGN. Since most vehicles are manufactured in America anyway, they aren’t “foreing cars” that have to imported. They may be “foreign designed”, but they’re built here. Why does the Ford commercial with the idiot in the ballcap have to mention and berate Honda instead of focusing (no pun) on thee crappy Ford? Pretty pathetic.
