I’t sad today to see that people actually expect others to take full responsibility for their lifes with no concern for the real outcome or cause. Removing all risk and all possibility of error so they can sit back and milk the economy. There was a time when liability only resided in an intent to ignore problems. It’s hard to imagine any car company today intently building a vehicle with defects. Driving is a risk, one that should be taken seriously as the sole operator of any vehicle. Either except the risks, or walk.

The story is not an editorial or analysis of theories of product liability and who should bear responsibility. That is a more complicated topic than some people realize and is, economically speaking, a balancing act.
Anyway, AFAIC it would not have been fair to consumers or to other car manufacturers to allow Chrysler off the hook completely for risks it assumed over the years as a car manufacturer.

How about this? It would not have been fair for taxpayers to pick up the tab in the first place.
