Maybe we just should just drop the “safety” from their title. We should also look at how congress is experienced to “save lives”. I can’t remember that being something they ran on at the last elections. I thought they were only experienced in spending our money…..

What’s next? A government funded organization saying they collected all kinds of data that proves our government doesn’t tell us everything, but the government told them not to release it to us?

The IIHS came to this conclusion years ago. Hands free or not, cell phones distract drivers. I’ve had one since 1989 and came to that conclusion then that it’s because we aren’t in the moment like we are when we talk to someone sitting next to us in the car. We’re “projecting” to wherever the caller is, & we’re distracted by their background noise as well. Wonder how many people have died in accidents with the caller still on the line saying, “Hello? Are you OK?” How many accidents are caught in voice-mail. Still, woudn’t end all calls. Just need to adapt and hope no one we knows dies until we get better at it…

Is anyone actually upset about the government withholding the results of the study? It’s not exactly a ground-breaking conclusion.

I anxiously await the media backlash to the Surgeon General’s withholding of the secret “Alcohol doesn’t actually make you dance better” report.

Cell phones are bad enough but now people are texting while they drive. I’ve had 2 16 year olds roll vehicles in the last few weeks who were texting. One of them only had a learner’s permit. Maybe I should just prop my book on the steering wheel and read while I’m driving……

The ex MADD organization members running the NHTSA wouldn’t really want to deflect from their agenda of prohibition by claiming there is something more dangerous than having a beer and driving.

Better cover up anything that deflects from alcohol. MADD might lose profit and donations.

Can’t wait for the 10k fleecing for those caught with a phone in their hand while driving.

Don’t do it M & M. I did that on my way to a final exam for extra studying and crashed into the rear of the car in front of me. In 2111 they will be releasing a study that says reading and driving don’t mix.

I am amazed that yet another study has to be conducted to prove something that should be common sense…anything that takes your attention away from driving is dangerous. Who paid for this one?

M&M you are right. I always thought the driving while talking thing was overblown, and there are a number of equally distracting things that people do while driving. However, texting is wayyyy more dangerous than making phone calls while driving and is so popular now, we should be alarmed.
