I read about this program and originally thought, “Gee, what a great idea.” After more thought I must admit I feel like a complete lack wit for having that thought. I have a 15 year old son who has been driving on a learner’s permit since April of 2011. I make him drive a lot and as we come upon a particular scenario I ask him to evaluate all the possibilities. When the trip is finished we discuss what made him nervous, what could have happened at the traffic light when we were turning left without the aid of an arrow and the oncoming driver had his turn signal on but went straight? More parental involvement is what children need, not a bumper sticker. Do you really want someone driving behind your teen who is more concerned with reading a number off of a bumper sticker and dialing their phone than they are with their own driving? The person trying to do something to make my son a better driver becomes the person who causes the accident that injures or kills him. Hum, quite the paradox.
Better idea, DMVs across the country sell magnetic decals that simply say TEEN DRIVER so the idiots on their phones, the aggressive drivers that like to ride your bumper and all those things that ADULTS do while driving might get the fact that a little more caution is necessary.
