Safety is not the primary concern of having a small car. Smart car meets suv, you now have lump of metal.

The Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV offer the best of both worlds; SUV like body construction for protection, and 28 MPG on the highway, along with stability control and antilock brakes as an option. the all-wheel/4 wheel drive is also practical.

A note to J Doe- SUV’s are trucklike in that they have body on frame construction, the sturdiest configuration on earth. The RAV4 and CRV have monocoque (unit body and frame) to save weight like almost all modern passenger vehicles.

Stability control and ABS are crutches for poor drivers who have no clue what to do in an emergency. If the computers fail the vehicle will plunge through a guardrail and plummet into a ravine filled with infants and puppies.

Personally, I don’t like SUV’s of any size. I drive smaller passenger cars and I pay attention to what goes on around me and keep in mind that there is always something much bigger than my car being driven by an idiot who will try to hit me.

Wow, where do you live Coetalia? We don’t have ravines filled with infants and puppies here in Michigan. I do agree with the tone of your post. I just couldn’t resist.
