The only question is who will be sold, when and who is the buyer? I don’t think that HGIC is a buyer, but might be a merger or acquisition opportunity? What do you think MarketWatcher? Also, a name that hasn’t been tossed around Old Republic. They own Great West and Bituminous among others? They’re stock is dying.

Well, so far count ’em. Harleysville is getting hammered. EMC, Allied, and United Fire are all getting hammered. Acuity and West Bend are already saying that they could post a 105 or worse in 2008. Who’s bragging now? Hanover sounds like they are in very good shape. I don’t know aobut Selective or others. But the fact is that some of these companies that the agents crawled in bed with when they were all buying business, will now feel the pain by early 2009 when the re-rating and re-underwriting begins. It is coming as sure as more taxes by the Democrats!!

look at the stocks or their results. Old Republic. Cincinnati. CNA. Harleysville. EMC. United Fire. OneBeacon. West Bend. Why do the names Iowa National, Illinois National, and Reliance come to mind? They go bye-bye in a cloud of dust. The agents that put all of their eggs with the above named companies are not going to be happy in 6 months. Big Chubb agent.

I loose business to Harleysville monthly and usually for about 25% to 50% less. Keep on writing business for 50% less then the rest of the market see what happends……Fill the bucket (at dirt cheap prices) and they will empty the bucket when they have to increase there prices. Agents love companies when they do this!!!!!!!

Harleysville has been buying business since their re-entry into the midwest marketplace two years ago. They closed up shop, honkered down, reduced staff but are now back and again, behaving badly. Too bad the newbies didn’t have the good sense to remember history does repeat itself. How soon is the downsizing?

Sounds like posts from folks getting beat – you always hear these complaints when someone isn’t good enough to keep their account and blames it on the competition. Great Company to work with and doing some really great things throughout the Northeast and Midwest. Watch how many more companies announce beatings soon….
