It’s about time the Feds started looking at the CPSC again. As long as the bill that passes gives the CPSC the power to issue mandatory recalls it’ll be fine. One of the big problems is that all recalls are voluntary and there is no simple way for the CPSC to do its job. Let them do what they are supposed to and watch the results.

It is not only past time for the CPSC, but the FDA/USDA and other regulatory offices to have the power to force recall. FDA only has the power with respect to medical devices. Not food, pet food or drugs or food supplements. USDA also only has limited power to force a recall.

Can it be that the little people are finally so fed up with all the non-regulation and de-regulation by government regulatory entities that they want some sane and decent regulation again? “The market” does not always lead to good results. Have you flown lately? Needed heparin lately? Tried to buy a safe toy? Fed your dog or cat?

Remember when the danger of buying drugs from Canada was that they might be unsafe? And ICE was for a while harassing people at the border for bringing in Canadian drugs?

The big companies are always quick to cry “We need free markets” and just as quick to cry “Big Brother government enforce our monopolies to keep our prices and profits up!”

Gee thanks, Ronnie and Nancy for getting the ball rolling….the results suck, unless you’re as wealthy as you were back them.

The clueless one is back. I’m sure you would like to go back to the days before Reagan. Oh for 21% mortgages and double digit inflation. Free up the economy and let people have their own money and things just naturally seem to get better for almost everyone. Of course, not for the little people, eh Media Moron? Punish the successful, because they have the money they must be cheating.

I can’t see going back to the days of relentless regulation. To my mind there should be some standards by which the CPSC operates (and I believe there are) and that if a product warrants recall the CPSC gets to make that call. We don’t need more regulation, we just need to use the ones we have.
