I am a USAA long time member – this is VERY un-usaa-like behavior. The facts recited suggest the Association had a policy defense re: course of construction and surface water. by the way, I am a casualty guy so not pretending to Property expertize here. I am also about as Gung-Ho as one can get but suggest a closer look before condemning the Association

I used to be an independent field property adjuster and have since worked for a few P&C companies and have worked at least a claim or two for every major HO player in my area. USAA is far and away the most giving company with whom I have ever had the pleasure of working. Their examiners examine every possible way to afford coverage, even if it is only a little bit. I can’t believe that there is merit and the award is the typical jury-ignoring-the-facts award. I do hope that USAA pursues this and shows that they were in the right.

Unfortunately they are fighting a Marine deployed in Iraq. No company wants that kind of negative publicity. I doubt USAA wants to be known as the company that low balls claims payments to people serving our country. They may fight the damage award but will have to be careful.

3.5 million is irresponsible of the jury. It’s not USAA’s fault that he is in Iraq nor that he is on his 3rd tour. It just comes out of the pockets of the other hardworking men and women serving our country who are insured with USAA.
