You know… It’s really crazy when you read an article like this one & immediately start to pick it apart.

Air Philippines knew what they were getting with their lease, even if it was “worn out & in need of constant maintenance (here comes the first kicker) that the airline was incapable of or unwilling to do.”

The next kicker is the comment from Don Nolan (CHI Lawyer) who states that the “settlement will improve safety in developing countries, where carriers often buy aging aircraft no longer wanted by U.S. airlines. HELLO??? This is BoguS at best, in that none of this $ is going for safety if you read the next paragraph…
“Nolan said after legal fees of about one-third the award, families will get on average more than $1 million (euro630,000) each.” Where is the $ for the safety??? Did I miss it? Unless these families are planning to donate to the Airline Safety I see nothing designated as being for Safety.

Then… Lawyers said the plane had cracks and a faulty altimeter when it was delivered to Air Philippines – well, like I said above – they knew what they were getting, why did they accept it?

“The plane crashed into the side of a hill as the pilot made a second attempt to land on the runway.” Could this have been pilot error? “A commission appointed by the president of the Philippines blamed the crash on pilot error and found no evidence of mechanical failure.”

Here’s another kicker… “But lawyers for the families…” OK so it was actually not a kicker but a lawyers But… “parts of the mangled plane were dumped in a pit and buried in concrete before they could be examined by independent experts.”

So how about we blame the Philippines authorities since they are the ones who buried the crashed parts?

After all, “Storch defended his company’s overhaul of the plane and the lease to Air Philippines”, saying “We delivered a very good aircraft in good working condition to a very good airline”. “Unfortunately, this aircraft had an accident because the pilot got in some clouds and got disoriented.”

Hmmmm, not so sure about it all, but looks to me like some hands were grabbing & digging deep in the cookie jar of funds to pay off this one…

I hope the families will be able to get some closure at the loss of loved ones!
I hope the Philippines authorities will take this as a warning & not bury the next one to crash befro it can be checked out by their experts… It might be better to have their experts check the planes before they fly them too!
