I like the spirit of yOur questionnaire. I was a young agent once. A compamion survey may be directed to those over 40 and ask similar questions ans ask the oldsters opinions of the young agent as they view the young agents.
Have all 6 of the insurance agents under 40 replied to the survey?
It may just the agents I work with in commercial lines, but the great majority are closer to retirement than seeing the bottom side of 40. Insurance isn’t sexy enough to attract a lot of young talent.
I was 32 when I first started into the insurance industry. Sexy career? Perhaps
not. But I have met at least 3 who have
graduated from college with “Insurance
Degrees”. I didn’t even know it could be
a major. Most of the people that I know
get into insurance by accident or as
a “temporary thing” until something else comes along (which seldom does). I am now
just over the 40 mark and find insurance
a very challenging and sometimes rewarding
career. It is not for everyone, but neither is modelling lingerie.
I am 26 have been a broker for a couple of years. Here is what we are thinking show us the money. Its amazing how sexy insurance sounds when your making a couple hundred ground a year.
I was 21 years old when I accidentally fell into insurance. I am now 27 and have my own agency. True, insurance is not a “Sexy” career choice, but I like it.
40 years ago I was told the following. “take care of yor customers and they will take care of you and you have to like what you do and be able to afford to like it” Oh yes! “always tell the truth and you won’t have to remember much. Looking back of my years in the business I have no regrets. If I was only after the money I would at this point in my life be a disappointed person. As to the screen name “producer” I hope you are not in this business or plan to leave soon as you are myopic in the view of the whole. This is not intended to be a slam at you because I see a lot of people [my clients] who are in there chosen profession for only the money. These persons are always unhappy but cannot afford to leave. I never have to say i don’t like what I do and I can afford to keep doing it.
