The laws on tailgating were enforced eh?
I realize this is a problem, every year we pucker up waiting on the rush of Ice claims (I’m an A/L adjuster)I wish there were an easy answer, but what I’m seeing is another grandstanding politician trying to milk a few votes by standing up for the people against the “evil trucking companies”. No one likes to share the road with trucks, but they probably wouldn’t be too happy without them either. If you don’t like trucks, the next time your local grocery store is out of Perrier, call an eco-friendly Prius.
I don’t see any crusading govenators posting themselves at on-off ramps waiting to pounce on drivers who cut the trucks off in a mad rush to beat them to the exit, or the ones who camp out in their blind spot, etc… a study by AAA several years ago credited the car-driving population with 75% of the accidents involving trucks, you got a solution for that governor?
In the trucking buisness, our folks want the same thing you do, to go home alive at the end of the day. They are the people who keep you in your lifestyle little buckeroo, How about using the resources of the state to help find a solution, instead of compounding the problem? When the prices go up on everything you buy because you’ve increased the cost of doing business yet again, I’m sure you’ll point to someone else. The blade scrapers that start at $18,000.00 ? we’ve got em. They do a wonderful job of removing snow. Ice on the other hand, when it’s frozen to the roof is a bit more difficult to remove. You could of course, use de-icing equipment similar to what the airlines use, I’m sure the epa wouldn’t mind, Osha will undoubtedly give you a pass since it’s for the good of “the people” and what the hey? Raman Noodles will no doubt taste better anyway when they are $8.00 a pack. You might see them in all of the finer eateries (or at least the ones who manage to stay in business) One more time folks you can’t make it a risk free world. I hate that people get hurt, killed and take property damage but gee they do that anyway driving huh?
I think a better solution might be to work with the trucking companies, they are NOT your enemy they are people out doing a physically and mentally demanding job. They are the people who keep the shelves full. Why don’t you try working with them?
