I wondered when the freedom at any cost to others crowd would be heard from. I am alive because I was wearing a legally required helmet. Too bad so many of you want so many others to die for your freedom.

    To “Nobody Important”:

What makes you think I don’t wear a helmet when I ride? I do. What makes you think a “legally required” helmet gives any more protection than one worn voluntarily? It doesn’t. When will you mental midgets learn to differentiate between the UTILITY OF HELMETS and the FUTILITY OF HELMET LAWS? Probably never.

Is Mary doing this just because she’s a hog rider? Spending additional taxpayer money to “promote” helmets isn’t going to add value to the situation. Benefits of wearing a helmet are common knowledge. Those who refuse to wear them aren’t going to change their mind. These are not the serious cycle riders, but the immature, stupid, carless riders of crotch rockets who deserve the right to slam their bikes into stationary objects at high rates of speed. If they don’t consider staying alive a priority, nobody else should either.

When these careless riders without helmets end up in the emergency room and are uninsured or underinsured who do you think picks up the cost? The hospitals do and therefore, eventually the rest of us do.

When are the insurance carriers going to add penalties or no coverage if you’re in an accident while riding with no helmet. That would turn things around… No coverage – lose your license.

Let’s take it a step further. You can ride without a helmet, but you won’t receive one penny of public assistance for anything if you end up with damages.
Where do my rights begin when my taxes end up paying for their stupidity?

Helmets can save or kill you. I think it should be the persons perogative if they want to wear a helmet. I always wear one but I have several friens who do not.

It’s still their “right” folks. I agree with everyone re. imposing consequences for their bad decision. I seriously doubt anyone in this country has the “stones” to take a bold stand. In other words, we’re doomed to pay for the stupidity of morons.

While we’re at it let’s eliminate seat belt laws. It should be my right to kill myself. Only I know what’s best for me.

In all honesty, I do agree the dangers of not wearing a helmet are obvious and I don’t know that additional awareness funding would change that. Funding better enforcement might be an answer.

Ideally, I’d like to see the law stepped up from allowing the beanies to requiring a full face helmet. I know four people who wouldn’t have a face today, were it not for a full helmet.
