after the stock market crash in 1929 congress suddenly realized that the banks control of ALL aspects of the financial world was the primary cause of the crash. When the financial world collapsed it took with it the banking and insurance fields. Congress stepped in and separated the three, banking, financing, and insurance. Recently the banks used their financial muscle and got our worthless, spineless, congress to pass the bank reform act to basically destroy the safeguards put in place in 1934 to prevent banks from accumulating too much power. Guess what, as soon as they passed the bank reform act the banks figured how to screw the American people. It is amazing!! It took them less than 10 years to figure out how to form a ponzi scheme to screw an uninformed public.
The role of government should be to protect it people from unscrupulous banking and financial thieves. They have failed miserably. I voted for Bush but his legacy is one of completed failure in all aspects of his presidency. He has been a complete failure and it is questionable whether our country can recover from 8 years of corruption.

While a tend to agree in principle with the writers assessment, I feel the failure does not lie solely at the feet of the banks. Granted they are the vehicle that is allowing the process to be subverted, however, the true fault belongs in the electorate that has proven so apethetic in the last 30 years to select and elect such a mass conglomeration of spineless politicians whose sole purpose in life is their personal reelections.

I think that a lot of this is because we don’t have many decent people who want to run for office at the higher levels in particular. We have spent the last 30 years dragging everything they do, have done or might do through the press. Why would any decent person want to run for higher office? The press and our constant need for 24 hour news has made it tough to attract the most capable people to office.
