If only the government weren’t in the pocket of industry we’d see common sense standards passed with much greater frequency and rapidity. It shouldn’t take two years to say “oh, we should have fire proof stuff in highly explosive environments.” And it’s not just MSHA; it takes OSHA about 15 years to pass a standard. It greatly frustrates those of us in the safety industry.

well, here’s the first thing that brings to my mind — SAFETY!

i know that most companies are trying to make a profit but at what costs? why should it have to take a gov’t run agency say – DO THIS! is not the lives of our employees costly? can they not sue us, if we do not heed to safety of the individual? do they not fire us due to not following the rules, whether safety or any other reason? afterll, if i am late several times, they finally get tired and fire me – and then i am off to job hunt. lately, with all the safety issues and loss of life lately in our mines, personnel should be our #1 concern. afterall, w/o miners – where would the business be? and remember it does ricochet throughout the industry – from the raw goods to the finished goods. a commodity is not being produced if we have to stop the production for what ever the cause – including loss of life and the followup investigation.

let’s think safety first, especially this time of the year, where we want to spend the time w/family and friends.

    MERRY XMAS ALL!
