Wendy Baker, president of Lloyd’s U.S. operations, has decided to leave the organization at the end of December.
Baker has held the post for nine years. According to Sue Langley, head of Lloyd’s Market Operations and North America, during that time Baker has played a “significant role in developing Lloyd’s presence in the U.S.” During her tenure “premium from the region has risen three-fold and our profile in the U.S. market has increased significantly.”
She noted that Baker also “steered the U.S. operations during a number of difficult times, not least 9/11 and the 2005 windstorms.”
Lloyd’s said Baker would remain in the New York office until the end of December and her replacement would be “announced in due course.” Baker also confirmed with the Insurance Journal that she would be “on call” until April of 2008.
Lloyd’s Chairman Lord Levene commented: “Wendy has been a true ambassador for Lloyd’s in the U.S. over the last nine years. She will be sorely missed by both the UK and U.S. markets and the corporation in London.”
Baker responded: “Working for Lloyd’s these past nine years has been an honor. Despite some tumultuous and tragic events, I have enjoyed representing such a unique market of dedicated underwriters and brokers. It has been a privilege as well to work with such dedicated colleagues within Lloyd’s. I will miss them all. It has been fun.”
