“Other vehicles to make the list included: Saab 9-3, BMW X3 and X5, Mercedes M Class, and the Saturn Vue built after December 2007.”

Seems a bit presumptuous to put a car that hasn’t been built yet on this list, no?

I suppose the current ones don’t have stability control, but would otherwise have passed. Still, don’t they test the ACTUAL car before it can get the top safety pick?

Ford, just like GM and Chrysler has become a dinosaur by putting the customer last and staying in bed with the unions. After all these years they finally try to get serious and make a safe vehicle. Of all things…….two of their mainstays make the list; Taurs and Sable. American carmakers have always been, and will always be followers to the Japanese and European engineered cars. Ford makes good pick-up trucks, but it should fall on its sword and quit making their lousey cars. The only success Ford has had came in 1964 when they rolled out the Mustang.

Amen, Ike! I have always been in love with the Mustang since I was a kid. I love my ’65 and have had plenty of offers but my son will get it.

I always thought it was styling that was responsible for Mustang sales. I seem to remember Ford lamenting the drop in sales of the Thunderbird when the Mustang was introduced. They are still only as safety concious as they are required to be.

In the 1950’s Ford offered seatbelts and padded dashboards as options to safety minded consumers. They also created much stronger door latches to keep doors closed in severe crashes. The public was not impressed and Ford lost market share.

In the early 1970’s GM offered airbags as an option on some GM models. Again, the public was not impressed and would not pay for this alleged benefit. Most of the air bag equipped cars wound up at government agencies.

Silly gadgets like ESC are designed for clueless boneheads who can’t drive and don’t know how to perform even the simplest maneuvers to regain control of their vehicles.

And, by the way, the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable were a HUGE smash hit.Ford passenger cars have a better repair history in general than mos GM cars. European cars are the pits. They are expensive to buy and expensive to repair.

Oriental vehicles are the very best when it comes to technical innovation and bullet proof reliability.

These are not my opinions but rather these are facts. It is my profession to know these things.
