I live in Durham. I am white male and a independent party voter. I have a white female friend that was ran off the road twice by an white male ex-coworker. He kept stalkinig her.
She filed charges against him. The Durham PD treated her like trash. The Durham PD/Magistrate said they could not locate him to serve him court papers – and this was after she went to the Durham PD and the Magistrate and gave them his exact home address with a Google Map.

Incredible – she still lives in fear. $5 million is all Durham carries. It should be $5 billion. Jerks.

The City, Nifong, and the Police are all vulnerable to a suit by the falsely accused students although it remains to be seen how collectible they might be. As for the “certain ethnic stripper”, if she had any assets the City and the students should go after her for all associated costs in prosecuting and defending against her intentional and malicious lies. The only reason this got so much press was because she was black and her employers were white. That ain’t racist, just fact. While unpopular to some, the “assumption of risk” doctrine is also playable. When you elect to remove all of your clothing and dance around a bunch of guys drinking beer, what do you expect will happen? As the saying goes, anything for a buck.

I fail to understand what the insurance company for the city has in mind. This case is valued at far in excess of the $5 million policy limit, so what more is there for the insurance company to lose? Truly stupid advice from the carrier.
