With all our technology there is no acceptable excuse for the shoddy and borderline criminal negligence in performing bridge inspections. I’ll bet none of these inspection contractor geniuses lose their job over their incompetence. Bridge safety isn’t a priority for anyone because the risk of a total collapse is minmal, and the injury/fatality levels are considered non-catastrophic hence acceptable. You can bet everytime I have to drive across a bridge it will be at high speeds.
If the Romans had build our bridges, they’d still be in safe condition for another few centuries.
