Once again, another critical government service trashed by the incompentents and incompetence of the current Bush-league administration. Nothing like leadership. The fish rots from the head they say. Maybe since we now seem to have two executive branches (see recent Doonesbury’s for some laughs on this), I should says “heads.”

The studied or simply negligent mismanagement of this administration creates chaos in many areas, and when there is chaos there is fear, especially if you talk up fear all the time. And in those conditions stealing is easy (or is it profits, or both or just plain stealing a la Halliburton and KBR?)

Are you listening insurance companies? Oh? OK, so you say you’re way ahead of the curve on all this–I hadn’t noticed…

I want more of this Great Leadership. Four more years of $4 gas and $12,000 homeowner premiums in Jeb’s old state. Let’s go for $8 and $26,000.

    Cheney in ’08!

And your liberal slanted comments are supposed to relate to this story in what way?

I was about to ask the same question ad. Looks like another case of “ready, fire, aim”.

I’m not sure how much better its hurricane forecasting can get, but I doubt there’s much more they can do. Sure its fun for a bunch of geeks to play with models etc, but history has shown that a hurricane dances to its own tune regardless of the forecaster. The early alert system works fine. Since nobody can diminish the strength of the storms or alter their course, what other value can this agency offer the public? It sounds like the staff, the people who do the work, are challenging the new guy with facts and experience. I find it odd that Max didn’t sound any alarms before his departure.

This whole deal sounds like inexperience, mixed with maybe a little jealousy. As for blaming Bush some poeple will be blaming him for the hurricanes themselves pretty soon, so you have to just let that one go.

I think this guy just wanted funding for his dept. and decided to use scare tactics to get it. The tactic had unintended side effects. He probably learned that politics is as much about what you don’t say as it is about what you say. Obviously Max already knew that.

There are more than just liberals that don’t like George Bush. I don’t know what exactly tipped you off that “media mogul” is a liberal, but then again I can’t read minds. But he could be…maybe you guessed right. All this “liberal”/”neo-con” sniping greatly irritates me.

However, I do agree that this isn’t so much a political battle as it is a fight over funding. Models can be wrong and these hurricane predictions are more like educated guesses. Hey I guess educated guesses are a lot better than uneducated ones. But I don’t put too much stock into them. We all know the storms are gonna be coming. What else can we do besides preparing for them?
