It may not be a bad thing to have this. Before everyone goes wild, I am a claims adjuster who has to work these things. It takes the burden off of the company and me if this was in place. The main thing on this as with any other program THE PREMIUM HAS TO BE PROPER AND RISKS INSPECTED to make sure it won\’t fail. If you want to live on the beach, then be prepared to pay more. If you want to live 50 miles inland, pay less. That is the fair way.

You really think we\’d all pay the right rate for risk for where we live and our exposures would be right if these idiots took over? Right now that is how it is and they are telling the insurance industry that it is wrong. You know, cause people can\’t afford it, can\’t have it, don\’t want to pay it, etc. People in cat areas don\’t want cat coverage. They want bare bones coverages and bare bones prices- until soemthing happens. How would a government run program be different? I guarantee that they will charge us all for the cat exposures we are not living in just so the people living there are taken care of should anything happen.

Like most Democrat solutions this has the same answer. Dictate to private industry what they should do or must do. They always want the \”Rolls Royce\” but expect people to pay \”Ford\” prices. Of course the industry can offer a true \”all risk\” policy. The problem is that it costs more than most people are willing to pay. Then the Democrat solution is to subsidize the cost through taxes or some other way to \”stick it to the wealthy\”. I believe that we really should have a true all risk policy covering all the variables such as hurricane, earthquake, landslide and earth
    movement, etc.

We *did* have an \”all risk\” policy. It was called the HO-5. Remember that? How about the old Continental PCP package policy? That was pretty close to \”all risk.\” Even the more recent HO-3XL from American States was pretty comprehensive. All of these are gone, though, at least down here in the southeast. Know why?

They were too expensive. There was a race to the bottom in price, and coverage eventually had to give in to that reality.

I\’m getting tired of hearing about the Democratic controlled Congress (remember 92, 94, 96, 98, 2000, 2002 and 2004). The Democrats were supposed to win back the majority in all of those elections. And what about President Gore in 2000 and President Kerry in 2004?

One more thing, can someone tell me when all the votes were counted for this election, even though it is still 2 weeks away?

Hey Doubful, how much more expensive will it be when the \”Democratic Congress\” takes it out of your paycheck?

Nothing like Governmental takeover of yet another private industry, but then what else can you expect from folks who want the Government to handle your lives from birth to death. On the other hand, if the insurance industry ever grows up and starts considering underwriting on a sane level rather than \”market share\” and let\’s see who can underwrite the most GWP, idiotic suggestions like this might just be a thing of the past. How long can a soft market last, hell it\’s gone 20 years so far, with no abatement.

So good to see the real people commenting here. These idiots talk as though we are the idiots. I wonder which of DEM friends would get the deals? I wonder where the real funding would come from? Oh let me quess – maybe me and you. I used to be a Democrat until it dawned on me I couldn\’t afford to be one. The only tax returns I ever got where when the Republicans held office. I cannot afford my own family let alone all the ones (legal or not) the Dems want me to support. There is no need to reform cat. coverage. There is a need for people to quit living in Cat. prone areas unless they want to pay for the insurance.
