It seems to me that you are unfairly categorizing all African-Americans based on the criminal activities of a few. I\’m sure there are some Jewish criminals and you would not appreciate rhetoric that lumped you in with them.

While you may be against this lawsuit, I wonder if you were also against the lawsuits that gave Jews reparations from the Holocaust. Do you find you have a double standard here? I\’m not saying you do; I\’m merely asking the question.

Just curious – did your family fight against slavery then?

Again, I make a comparison. If you want to fly the Confederate flag (which I personally feel is wrong), then can your neighbor fly a flag with a swastika?

This is an examople of someone that changes the facts to hide the truth. In this case my facts are part of history. This is why these cases work in court and are settled quickly. They know that the truth could kill their profits. Do you think that a major corporation would pay a claim that could not be proven? The FBI is the sourse of my claims. Check it out. These past events are documented for you to see if you want real facts. Don\’t type statistics from biased sourses. Call the FBI yourself and they will back up what I said. Remember the federal government was, and is today, the only protection in the south for it\’s black population. Local authorities were often klan members. Don\’t spread undocumented lies. These are the same lies that Nazi supporters spread today about the slaughter of jews. P.S. Covering up the overwhelming amount of rapes suffered by black women might fool someone in your tax bracket, but you can’t fool people with direct access to information. Have a nice day.

Well said. I am, quite frankly, appalled by what I\’ve read here. The southerners who\’ve posted certainly haven\’t done much to dispel the racist stereotype so often attributed to them. And I suppose many of them would confess to be Christian (except Jacqueline) and/or God-fearing people. I think the real reparations need to made to your hearts and your attitudes.

Forrest, Forrest, Forrest; are you still upset about the OJ case? Continue to be true to the name that you have chosen.
Have a nice day Mr. Gump.

The South had several national flags during its existence, and what is commonly thought of as the Confederate flag today is actually only the navy jack. This flag does not represent hatred of any race, it represents the southern navy. Insofar as it is thought to represent the Confederacy today, it stands for ideals like states rights and southern independence. The US flag today can be waved by the KKK, but that shouldn’t make anyone believe that the US is inherently racist. Therefore, the Confederate flag should not be seen as emblematic of slavery, as I hope that the following brief remarks will help you see.

The War Between the States was not fought to end or to preserve slavery, it was fought over questions like states rights vs. federalism, unfair import/export taxes being imposed on southern states, and so on. Many northerners were using anti-slavery rhetoric as a propaganda tool, and tried to glom slavery onto the cause of war. I am not saying that slavery was not an issue, but the war was not begun to end slavery. There were only two abolitionist societies in the North in 1860, while there were over 100 in the South. You tell me who was more concerned about ending slavery â€â€Ŕ practiced by only 2% of the population, and not limited to whites and blacks as owners and slaves. There were black slave owners, Indian slave owners, white slaves, Indian slaves, you name it.

Also, the Emancipation Proclamation, which was a total propaganda tool directed at a nation â€â€Ŕ the Confederacy â€â€Ŕ not under the jurisdiction of the issuing authorities, specifically exempted northern and border states, as well as regions under Union control like Vicksburg, MS. So when the war was over slavery was illegal in the former Confederate states but not in the North! Slavery in border states like Delaware did not end until the 13th Amendment.

While I appreciate Bunny\’s comments, and am sympathetic with her opinion, I have to disagree with her on a few points. Just as not all minorities are gang members, rapists, theives etc, not all Southerners are illiterate, racists. The same applies to Yankees(stereotype:rude and arrogant) Hispanics (stereotype:good for nothing but digging ditches) You see where I am going with this. Again, vocal MINORITY is what gets thing stirred up in ALL aspects of our civilization. Yes there are some whites who hate blacks, yes there are some blacks who hate whites, yes there are some blacks who hate Hispanics, Hispanics who hate Asians, whites who hate Jews and the list goes on forever! This battle is not just here in America people! This is what is going on in the middle east right now! It is a fact of life in every country. And we have to learn to deal with it and hopefully teach our children acceptance of ethnicity other than our own. But Bunny, don\’t go to judging others until you know that there is not a racist, stereotyping bone in your body. If the world could do this, we would all be much happier.

Comparing slavery to the Holocaust is like comparing an apple to a ahm sandwich. They are both edible but that is about the ONLY similarity they have. Do not mix up the two as the are not the same thing. I also feel the reparations paid to the people from the Holocaust was stupid. It\’s in the past, don\’t forget it but move on.
