Since it seems that less people are walking to work (thereby driving or taking public transportation which is probably faster) and there are less people carpooling (the assumption being that driving yourself to work takes less time than picking up others on your way to work) there seems to be a reasonable way to explain the shorter commuting times that this study shows.

The time that was saved might merely be the result of those people taking faster means to their workplace.

Also there were more people in the study who work in their home, further reducing commute times.

I don\’t think that we can necessarily say that the reduction in commute time is caused by more jobs \”going to the workers\” necessarily unless you are speaking of those that are now working out of their homes.

It used to take me 45 minutes to drive eight miles to work, when school was in session. I took the \”back roads.\”

My friend used to drive at least 1.5 hours each way to work. Within a year, she became totally burnt out from the commute.

I pity the folks driving an hour or more each way to work. I hope their employers treat them exceptionally well.

I drive about 45 minutes in the morning commute and one hour in the evening. But I don\’t live near any major urban areas..so the traffic jams aren\’t that bad and infrequent.. I just live about 40 miles from the office.

You mean someone actually took the time to write an article showing we save 48 seconds a day in driving time. I am waisting more time than that typing this message.
