I just love Progressive Insurance. Seen their website for their agents and brokers? Makes the Farmers Insurance Dashboard look pretty sick doesn\’t it?

Homesite has an NR-2 rating by AM Best. Is Progressive reinsuring their products?

If you love them, you\’ve never represented them. You\’re right about their nice interface, good graphics, and web functionality. It\’s all well and good until they stab you in the back. These guys are the *original* \”stick it to the agents that got you this far* company.

Southeastern agent, be careful what you say, knowing Progressive or \”Drive-by Insurance from Progressive\” they probably have a hidden cam in your stapler!

Gee…And this is the company that Massachusetts is trying to attact to come and write auto insurance in our \”fair\” state, in hopes that they\’ll write Home Insurance too? What ever happened to \”agent friendly\” carriers that wanted to establish good enduring relationships with their valued customers and agents alike? I can hear it now \” Quit your wining and get with the program…\”

Drive is a company years ahead of other IA brands. Commision is lower but ease of doing business is unparalled. The other carriers should follow the model to a \”T\”, but raise the commision a bit. Homesite had an agreement with GMAC and if you like replacement cost estimators way overvalued then \”Homesite\” will do just fine. Progressive should have looked into why GMAC stopped the contract. Geico atleast uses Travelers which is more realistic in the Replacement cost estimators and more competitive. Farmers needs an overhaul plain and simple in the arena of ease of doing business my friends. Oh yeah, the company with the camera in your Stapler is Allstate :)

When I was just starting out in January, 2005 seeking my very first appointment, Progressive wouldn\’t give me a chance. They wouldn\’t appoint me because I didn\’t have an expensive fancy-looking office: I have an office in my home in what used to be our living room. My home/office is zoned C-1 because we are located in a light business district on a major US higway and local thoroughfare, located within less than 1/8 mile between 4 used car dealerships.

But none of that mattered. The Agency Sales manager stood me up and didn\’t even come inside to meet with me in person or to see how efficient and streamlined we are. She called me from her cell phone (4 hours after she was supposed to meet with me and view our office and set-up) from the local shopping mall and said in a really snobby attitude that \”We have minimum image standards at Progressive. We don\’t appoint agents who have agencies in houses.\” (even though she knew I had the office in our house in a commercial district BEFORE our scheduled appointment which she never kept anyway).

After that, Dairyland and AIG appointed me. AIG has not regretted giving us a shot and a fair chance. As a weird coincidence, my AIG Agency Sales Mgr was a Progressive expatriot. After all I have heard about Progressive\’s shabby treatment of agents, the poor commissions pay and the way they treated Agency Sales Mgrs, I don\’t think I would want to accept an appointment from them. I like writing for AIG. They treat agents who are making them money well, they pay well, and their Agency Sales Mgmt personnel are down to earth and all around nice guys.

If I persue another appointment so I can write competitively priced homeowner & auto packages, I think Travelers is who I\’d want to seek appointment from. Progressive, by and through it\’s snooty, snobby young Barbie Doll types in Agency Mgmt positions who weren\’t even on the cheerleading squad when I was buying my first home made it plain to me when I was starting out and needed my first appointment that Progressive doesn\’t need small, plain vanilla agents like me who have \”offices in their houses\” anyway. And what little Progressive and others like Infinity/Leader pays in commissions to hard wroking agents, getting an appointment from Progressive is really no big favor to me.

Progressive has BEEN too high and mighty for years. Sure, they are efficient and technologically advanced, however, they are the back stabbing SOB\’s that most here have portrayed.

Please tell me what kind of ethically sound organization that is funded by premiums written through independent agents, turns around and uses a marketing campaign that promotes direct writers when THEIR premium is not the lowest?! Forget about the fact that in my agency I might have any number of other options under the independent umbrella to offer a customer, but Big Brother Progressive sends my potential client to State Farm or Allstate, etc.

Sorry, they are no friend of mine.

They have a rating from Demotech. But who\’s heard of Demotech\’s ratings? Do they fear that Bests rating will not be satisfactory or do they think that Bests is too expensive?

Does progressive or any other companies do direct appointments in New York for new independant agencies? My agency is less than a year old. Currently I write through wholesalers only.
