I have friends in their eighties and nineties who are sharp as a tack and immensely better drivers than some of the young punks driving around here. They exhibit courtesy and drive safely. I am sick and tired of elder bashing.

Grey Hair, I know many like those you describe. But I also had someone in that age bracked pull out in front of me yesterday, right after looking my way! I had my headlights on and the sun was in the opposite direction! I figured he would pull out in front of me, so I slowed down to avoid a potential fatality (his).

Well, look on the bright side, maybe there will be some social security money for us 30 somethings when we retire if enough of these \”mature\” people expire before their time.

There are policies out there for Intensive Care Coverage in addition to your regular health care needs. Might be a good thing, seeing as we are going to linger 3 days longer than someone 30.

What about getting the seniors off the road? When will states like Florida have the intestinal fortitude to pass laws that will remove the seniors who just are not capable of driving anymore, but do? There are many sobering examples of Florida drivers being behind the wheel and oblivious to their surroundings.

I agree 100%. Get them off the road or at least test them, mental or physcicaly, once a year instead of every 30 years. MY licence doesn\’t expired until 2036. I\’ll be 65 years old. That\’s just not right.

I will be passing these statistics on to several family members who continue to think it is \”OK\” for our mother to drive short distances. All I can ever think, is what if it is one of my children she runs into. She is 74 years old and suffers from severe dementia. In the past month or so, she has drove the wrong way down a major highway and has backed into several other vehicles. Yet, no one in the family seems to think she is dangerous but me. I tend to think the situation is no wants to be bothered with transporting her as needed.

I also had an elderly parent who should not have been driving. A private request to his doctor and the doctor notified the DMV that he should be reevaluated. The DMV pulled has license after he failed a driving test.
Most states have laws requiring MD\’s to report to the DMV/ BMV if they suspect a patient should not be driving.

Their is a lot of older drivers that cause car crashes. They should get tested again when they renew their license
