The flood insurance program has been a joke for a long time. This catastrophe didn\’t \”Expose\” and problems, it only gave politicians a reason to change the system.

finally someone from the industry spoke up & said the truth. we have yet to meet anyone that didn\’t get the run around, stall manuevers & absurd damage repair estimates from their homeowners insurance adjusters;that includes the big carriers that spend a bundle on advertising.
Obviously there are not embarassed to sing their own praises.

YES THERE ARE MONSTROUS DIFFICULTIES, AND IT HAS BEEN VERY SLOW. BUT REMEMBER THERE ARE SELF-SERVING POLITICIANS ESPECIALLY IN N.O. WHO APPEAR TO BE MAKING IT WORSE—WHERE WAS THE LOCAL CONTROL OF LOOTERS, GANGS, ETC. WHO SEEMED TO ENDANGER THE SAFETY OF ADJUSTERS WHO TRIED TO RESPOND PROMPTLY. ALSO,HOW CAN YOU ADJUST WHEN YOU CAN\’T FIND THE OWNER? SEEMS TO ME THIS BIG I HONCHO IS SPENDING WAY TOO MUCH TIME BRAGGING ON THE BIG I!

It\’s all quite a mess.Unruly residents, chaos from breached levees. No communication network during Katrina. Law abiding residents forced to evacuate by the government & told by parish government not to return for month. They incur expenses. Then there are no city services, no power, no water, a curfew, and not many jobs. All the ins. people had to do was watch Fox or CNN to figure out the residents had little option but leave and stay away. Some people have homes that can be fixed with the proper amount of $$ and TLC. Mail from Aug and Sept is still in mail limbo and the USPS has yet to fess up. The consumer will recall which carriers and agents did a number on them.

What does this agent think? FEMA just has an army of adjusters just sitting around waiting for the New Orleans levee to break every 40 years? The amount of damages were off the scale. No one could have staffed up with enough trained Federal FLood Adjusters. It time all the claims will be done and people will move one.

I love it…\”an army of adjusters\”…where do you folks think this army is going to come from?? For years the policy holders have screamed about high premiums….and the shareholders of insurance companies want profits……employees are trimmed and technology added and claims are handled by phone…and e-mail …and blackberry…..Well when the CATS hit, people are needed for inspection and those people have been summarily dismissed as excess bagage over the years…The independent adjusters have been working for the same fee schedules for years and the companies attempt not to outsourse their daily claims and try to outsource only CAT claims…..Many fine adjusters have left the field due to the lack of security/benefits and work….you can not support a family on three months work of work each year as a CAT adjuster….so, now with the number of major CATS occurring, the need for these folks is great, but the number of knowledgeable and capable adjusters is not sufficient….then the carriers and Vendors make it worse by \”training\” folks for 1-3 weeks and turning them loose on the public with computerized estimating software…Wonderful…like that is not going to make matters worse….Oh, let us not forget the Carriers that are not paying the Vendors and in turn the Vendors are not paying the IA (independent adjuster)…yes, it is a mess… and there is more than enough blame? Responsibility? to go around…..from the policy holders to the share holders…to the people that live within a mile of a major body of water and did not carry Flood Insurance….and then cry about how unfair that the Homeowners Policy does not cover flood…..etc..etc..etc.

After 20 years , someone wakes up to realize that the NFIP/FEMA/Homeland Security is naught but a front for $$ grabbing greed monsters.

Look at http://www.femainfo.us to see what the REAL picture is. The NFIP is broke, they are going to do everything possible to save their collective behinds, all at the expense of the policy holders.

Not 1 in 5 adjusters will work flood claims, simply because the fees are too low and you cant get paid…………

SOMEONE WHO SEEMS TO UNDERSTAND. EVEN IF AN ADJUSTER COULD DO ONE HOME AN HOUR THE MAGNITUDE. IS TREMENDOUS. HAS OUR BIG i LEADER VOLUNTEERED TO GO DOWN AND HELP. MANY OF US HAVE. UNTIL YOU ARE THERE YOU JUST DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE POLITICIANS. WHY IS FEMA FLOOD RUNNING OUT OF MONEY? BECASUSE THEY PAY PEOPLE TO BUILD AND REBUILD JUST IN TIME TO BE DESTROYED. IF YOU CAN BUILD A LARGE BEACH HOUSE FOR A COUPLE OF THOUSAND I WOULD DO IT TOO.

The NFIP is broke for the same reason that Citizens in FL is broke: rates are inadequate. Yet people living in vulnerable areas refuse to believe that they should pay more for insurance.

YES—THE RATES ARE WAY TO LOW FOR THE COASTAL AREAS—CALIFORNIA, FLORIDA, LOUISIANA, ETC. THESE RATES NEED TO BE ACTUARIALLY ADEQUATE AND DEMONSTRATED TO BE AS SUCH BEFORE COMMISSIONERS APPROVE THEM. PERHAPS THE REINSURERS WILL FORCE THIS OR DENY COVERAGE TO THE GREEDY INSURERS LOOKING FOR MARKET SHARE AT THE EXPENSE OF ADEQUATE RATES. IF RATES WERE ADEQUATE, FOLKS MIGHT THINK TWICE ABOUT CONTINUALLY REBUILDING ON COASTAL LAND. MAYBE THEN THERE WOULD BE FAR LESS CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE? DUH!
