Teach those bad boys a lesson. You can\’t be #1 lying and cheating the system.

Let me get this right. State Farm totals cars, fails to brand the titles as salvage, and then expects to be congratulated for admitting they screwed up?!? What ever happened to ethics, morals and accountability? Just read the quote from St. Farm spokesman Fraser Engerman. This is straight out of the posted article, and he\’s referring to the fact that St. Farm discovered the errors and reported them to the State prosecutors:

\”This is something we didn\’t have to do. We were very proactive in coming to the attorneys general,\” he said.

Something they didn\’t HAVE to do? What is the other option? Concealing it from authorities and their policyholdlers? As far as I\’m concerned, if they had knowledge of the problem, and they didn\’t reveal it, it\’s a material misrepresentation.

If I were insured with St. Farm, I would move my business to a different carrier and use the opportunity to explain the concept of personal responsibility to my 6 year old. My guess is that he has a better grasp of right & wrong than what Mr. Fraser Engerman does.

I wonder what would show up if you ran a Carfax report on one of these cars?

I have no respect for State Farm.

Unfortunately you cannot rely on Carfax because quite often it is not correct. Just another waste of money in an effort to find out if anything crooked has taken place with the vehicle OR if there have been any losses involving that vehicle.

Just about if not everything wrong with people not taking responsibility can be traced back to parents and attorneys. Too much of both of them telling children and others that you are not responsible for your actions (unless they are good of course), and there is no such thing as losing (all the kids get ribbons or awards so they are not traumatized).

On vehicles which they paid total losses and passed along those vehicles to be sold again without benefit of obtaining a salvage title? Surely a company of that size has a salvage vendor who is responsible for obtaining salvage titles and selling the salvage and returning to State Farm the funds in excess of the cost of the storage and fees. Sounds like there was a bad vendor involved. State Farm had absolutely nothing to gain from this conduct and there has been harm to their reputation.

It is possible they had an insider with authority over salvage who was either lazy or receiving kick-backs. Either way, State Farm is being honorable to admit they had an internal problem which caused harm to the public. I cannot fathom they condoned this conduct…no insurance carrier would much less one of that stature in the marketplace.

Anyone know where I can find an article, ruling, law, anything…..that prohibits a carrier from replacing damaged parts with OLDER Year/Mileage salvage parts?

WOW!! The comments that the 27 yr SF agent posted really scares me!!! What is it that is coming that is supposed to be worse? I can\’t even imagine what that could be!!!! They are #1, and yet they seem to treat their customers like \”red-headed step children\”. I can\’t understand how they can stay #1, and maintain such a huge book of business.
As for the LKQ question: LKQ is supposed to mean \”Like Kind & Quality\”. How can something that is older and with higher miles be like kind or quality? Maybe if you replaced a rusted out body panel with a year or two older panel without rust, that could be considered LKQ, I guess. But that is not usually the situation. Wondering….. K. Hilliard, do you have insurance with Farmers by any chance?!?!?!
