You pay your money you take your chances. If you don’t want to be in the disaster business don’t be in the insurance game.

The correct commercial coverage is called DIC – difference in conditions. Hard to get? Not if you know what you’re doing.

My son & daughter-in-law live in Gulfport. They evacuated early on. Lost everything. GEICO had an email to them two days after the storm hit instructing them what to do – great service! Would most independent agents even have their client email? Would IA insurers?

By the way, I sent a check for a month’s income to the Red Cross to answer your question – thats in addition to our regular contribution. We have also opened our home to a student from the devastated area. I have also set my staff to coordinating others who want to house students.

Good for your son and daughter. They must talk Geico into insuring their home. Auto claims always take a shorter time to close, and auto policies cover flood.
I work in an independent agency, and I worked 12 hour days for 3 months after Ivan, helping our insureds with claims. I object to your condescending attitude.
An experienced, knowledgeable agent will always be a better resource than a barely licensed csr at the other end of the 800#.

    What an embarrassing letter!

Insurance agents without the right insurance begging for furniture?

These affected people have basically nothing. There is no shame in asking for help; if someone can lighten another’s load, by getting ahold of some reduced price furniture, that would be a blessing to fellow insurance worker in need.

It is not amazing that agents do not have business interuption coverage for flood, It simple is one of those things that is not readily available to purchase by anyone. This plea for help is no different than the pleas we here from the tens of thousands that were affected, with the big exception that we are not asking for retro active coverage or a handout from the federal government, we are asking for help from fellow agents, so that the people (our customers) that were affected by this horrible event can get on with their lives. Thousands of agents were affected and they are faced with helping their customers, even while their own homes were blown or washed away, agents are doing what they were hired by their customers to do and that is be there in the event of a claim, no matter how bad it is and how much you really don’t want to be there. God help those customers that do not have agents because they bought coverage from the internet or from an 800 telephone #.
My question for you is what are you doing to help?

You apparently know less than you think, If you allow your son to be insured by Geico. And by the way DIC may be easy to get where you are, but not in all areas.
I’m still miffed that you would even tell the world you have a family member that is insured thru a direct writer. Apparently the e-mail was enough of a fuzzy warm feeling to make it all seem OK to you, but you have a lot to learn if you can’t advise your own son on the evils of Geico, That is, as you put it “AMAZING”
