Whatever happened to: slow until you can see the tracks are clear and then accelerate quickly across the tracks? I was taught this in a 1967 Driver Education course in high school. Most vehicles I observe at RR crossings brake or stop while on the tracks – a suicide wish if there ever was one. The remainder don’t slow down at all on their approach – even for blind crossings or those on curves.
