Almost 20 years ago I worked for Chubb in Minneapolis where flexi-time was alive and well. Of course there were only two or three choices of 7-3, 8-4 or 8:30 to 4:30 for support staff only. Most of the support staff work the 7-3 shift so they could go home and go out with their families for a walk or some other outside activity. They were brilliant performers and while I was there we won the best branch award two years in a row. When people in Warren heard some were leaving at 3pm! They were agast. Flexitime reduced as time pasted as I moved to other Chubb offices. I wonder what vision has been recieved today to remind management that happy employees achieve or exceed their goals. It was the words of the president of Chubb in 1984 that made me join the company. “It is the job of every managers to make sure their employees have fun at their job. Employees who have fun at their work, achieve or exceed their goals.” Words of wisdom that inspired me last year to leave the industry after 24years and start my own consultancy firm.
