I agree…There are no useful messages on this “hollow” article. Notice no author??? This is probably just a useless article, to fill in the space on the web page…
Moreover, every case is different, and every policy is different. One can not generalize.
Are there no intelligent writers out there? To write an article with no recommendations, or no useful, practical information, is simply a waste…otherwise known as trash…
So is this article implying that having sewer backup coverage means there is also coverage for:
“Most homeowners and business owners may not realize that they are responsible for the maintenance and repair of their house or sewer lateral –the pipeline between the city sanitary sewer main, usually located in the street — and the building.
The sewer lateral is owned and maintained by the property owner including any part, which may extend into the street or public right of way. A cracked or deteriorated lateral or one filled with tree roots can allow groundwater to seep into the system contributing to the problem.”
If not, what is the point or meaning of the two paragraphs quoted?
Actually you CAN generalize; I have yet to see a homeowners policy in 17 years of handling claims for many many different companies which covers the sewer lateral. No matter the cause, the sewer pipes themselves are not covered. The article is factually correct, but I agree, whats the point? Showing a hole in coverage which cannot be plugged with an endorsement?

Seems to be just taking up space.
