FEMA, The Life Safety Group Unveils New Fire Extinguisher Life Safety Video Via CD-Rom

January 17, 2005

Due to recent catastrophic fires covered by the media with regards to large public gathering spaces, the Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association (FEMA) produced a video that discusses portable fire extinguishers, codes and standards relevant to public meeting
spaces and assembly halls, and the benefits of these life-saving devices.

Consumers, building owners, schools, theaters and other public building managers can reportedly improve their fire protection plan and approach to life safety with information provided in FEMA’s new CD-Rom, “Your First Defense When Disaster Strikes.”

“We are really excited about adding this powerful piece to our collection of educational materials,” said Pat Jaugstetter, president of FEMA. “Not only is the CD-Rom informative, accurate, and critical to the industry, it is also a real eye-opener for those involved with assembly occupancies.”

The CD-Rom is designed to accompany FEMA’s educational materials about balanced fire protection, which include a brochure and a building diagram that indicates where and what types of fire equipment should be installed in commercial structures. The CD-Rom has a running time of approximately 10 minutes and explains specific codes and standards for portable fire extinguishers, testimonials from industry professionals, and an educational overview of the fire equipment that is required in assembly occupancies.

“Your First Defense When Disaster Strikes,” along with the “Balanced Fire Protection for Life Safety” brochure, building diagram, and a free extinguisher training CD can be ordered by visiting the FEMA Web site at http://www.femalifesafety.org and locating the online ordering form on the Educational Materials page.
