I love to see stories of two giants like Geico & Google fighting it out in court. What a waste of time & money!

So Susan, if you opened a small business, and another small business started doing the same to your trademarked name, you wouldn’t have a problem with it? The size of the company is irrelevant. Don’t be blinded by the fact that these are large companies. It’s about using someone’s name without permission. How you like me now?

Google isn’t doing anything wrong they are simply doing what they are in business to do offering internet search. If geico doesn’t like it they can remove themselves from google’s search engine. We know this won’t happen since google is the most widely used search engine available. No advertisments use the wors “Geico” and even if they did it wouldn’t be google’s problem. It would be the company using it illegally

    M,
I think you are confused about what Google is doing, which by the way IS illegal.

If you type in “geico insurance” in the search bar, what happens (but due to the lawsuit it might not work anymore) is that on the right hand side, where the ads are, will have links to OTHER insurance companies that can offer you a quote for insurance. in the link it says “geico insurance” but when you click on it, it goes to a completely different site to offer you insurance.

It’s like you having a business (like in the previous post) and a 2nd business is stealing your business because they put your business name in their website so when people search for your business it goes to them instead. I’m sure you would lay down and let that happen if it were you.

    Jimmy-

Go to google and type Geico Insurance in. They do show sponsed links but they do not mention Geico, they simply say get an insurance quote here. That is not illegal, they never try and make you think they are geico they are simply offering an alternative to geico. This is called competition

    M,
Like I said, they changed it due to the lawsuit. Type in “Allstate Insurance” and you will see what I am talking about. The ads on the right hand side will have “allstate” in the links, but link you to a completely different company that has no affiliation with allstate whatsoever.

LOL, he did get me there. However, that leads me to wonder if some of them are seeling Geico insurance as a broker there should be no problem. If the links claim to sell geico insurance and the site does not sell geico then it is the sites problem not google’s. So I still see no reason to sue google
