Travelers Sponsors Fire Safety Documentary

November 22, 2004

In an effort to help homeowners prevent one of the most frequent causes of major property losses, Travelers, a member of St. Paul Travelers, is sponsoring several fire safety programs around the country including the documentary “Wall of Fire.”

Told from the viewpoint of firefighters and victims, “Wall of Fire” provides a first-hand view of the speed and destructive force of fire. It also provides safety measures to help prevent fires and save lives.

Produced by Connecticut Public Television and sponsored by St. Paul Travelers, “Wall of Fire” is being broadcast by public television stations across the country and is available for purchase through the following Web site: http://www.cptv.org/TVNationalWallofFire.asp.

In addition, through its emerging markets program, Travelers is participating in several fire safety programs across the country to provide free smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in low- to moderate-income communities. In the past four years, these programs have reportedly reached out to more than 10,000 households.

“We think it is imperative to form community partnerships as we have in locations such as Chicago, St. Louis and New York City through the NeighborWorks Insurance Alliance to help mitigate homeowner losses and save lives,” said Don Davis, director of Personal Lines Emerging Markets for Travelers. “House fire deaths and injuries are often preventable through the proper use of smoke alarms, and we are proud to help provide them to those in need.”

In the winter, and especially at holiday time, people tend to increase their use of candles, fireplaces, wood stoves, and electrical decorations that can lead to fires in the home.
