Excellent article. As a customer service representative and a Broker for an independent agent, I and my co-worker give this kind of information to our clients. We educate them on the difference between market value and replacement cost value on a home/rental. Most people do not understand how important it is to be fully insured. Ususally they fight this process because the premium is so much higher. We will continue to use education as the best tool to help our clients choose the best coverage for themselves.
I find when teaching CISR classes and I ask the agencies that are represented if they do any annual or at least bi-annual checking with their clients, I pretty much get blank stares. It amazes me how many agencies don’t do any follow up at all after the policy is sold.
The excuse I get is that they are too busy with all the stuff the companies require them to do. I suggest a renewal letter at least but again, most don’t “have the time.” Potential E&O claims? Of course the E&O carriers preach that if you do something for one client, you have to do it for all so many agencies would rather take no action.
