AIA Urges Senate to Complete Work on Long Overdue Major Legal Reform

The Senate can help end years of well-documented abuses of the U.S. judicial system this week by passing the Class Action Fairness Act, the American Insurance Association said today.

“This is long overdue, common-sense reform,” AIA President Robert Vagley said. “A bipartisan majority of senators favor this bill. The Senate should act expeditiously to conclude debate so the legislation can become law this year.”

The Class Action Fairness Act (S. 2062) will allow federal courts to more easily exercise jurisdiction over large, interstate class actions. The legislation has been modified to enhance the benefits for consumers while retaining much-needed reforms, so Vagley urged the Senate to reject additional amendments to the bill.

“The Class Action Fairness Act will make class action lawsuits simpler, fairer and faster for all involved. This bill is meaningful, balanced and bipartisan,” Vagley said.
