Republic Indemnity Co., StrataCare Partner for Paperless Workers’ Comp Bill Review

October 31, 2002

Republic Indemnity Co. of America (RICA) announced the implementation of a paperless workers’ compensation claims and bill review system. Republic’s system was developed over the last year in partnership with StrataCare, who provides StrataWare eReview.

Dave Mitchell, senior vice president at Republic Indemnity Insurance commented, “We believe that innovation is the key to managing claims costs in the future, especially medical costs. We worked hard with our Document Management partner and StrataCare to develop this innovative approach to processing Workers’ Compensation bills. The results have been greater than expected.”

StrataWare eReview receives the electronic file of the provider bill via the Internet and automatically processes it through the StrataWare eReview electronic bill re-pricing engine. The system then generates an EOR and payment EDI back to the client’s claim system. Bills can be processed directly through the re-pricing engine or diverted for special handling, using a client-configurable Decision Engine.

The system also provides a Web browser tool, accessed via the Internet, for viewing stored images such as surgery reports and other supporting documents, when the bill review process requires it. StrataWare eReview can also receive bills by means of a paper conversion model or from clearinghouses that process electronic bills directly from providers.

The public debut of the StrataWare eReview system will take place at the National Workers’ Compensation and Disability Conference at McCormick Place in Chicago on Nov. 13-14.
