Study Finds Safety Benefits From Chicago’s Red Light Camera Program

    If Chicago simply added one second to the yellow intervals on the lights, almost all of which are deliberately set or left too short for the ACTUAL perception/reaction times and ACTUAL approach speeds of at least 85% of the drivers (safest timing method), it would be certain for the violation rates to drop by 70% to 80+% and almost certain for the crash rates to drop lower than the cameras achieve.

    Red light cameras are government-run for-profit rackets operated by the for-profit camera companies.

    Allowing for-profit companies to play any part in traffic enforcement guarantees that the principle goal is profits, not safety.
